About Jarrah wood: Jarrah [Eucalyptus Marginata] stock is composed of a mix of Jarrah and Karri wood, two species so closely related as to, shy of DNA testing, be almost impossible to tell apart. Australian builders have used both woods inter-changeably for over a hundred years. Jarrah and Karri trees are majestic, standing over 245 feet in height, with trunk diameters of up to 10 feet. They are the tallest trees in Western Australia where they dominate the forests.
The habitat range of Karri and Jarrah is restricted to a relatively small area of the SouthWest, from near Albany to Cape Leeuwin, on deep loamy soils where rainfall is in excess of 30 inches annually. The trees are a true gum with smooth bark on a long shaft-like trunk. When the old bark is shed, the bark can be seen in varying colors of orange, yellow, gray and white. The leaves are broadly lanceolate, dark green above but paler underneath. The umbels of 3-6 white flowers produce a very high-grade honey which is generally recognized as the best in Western Australia.
